Barking Riverside
The Project
The project vision was to ‘deliver one of Europe’s largest mixed use placemaking projects and unlock the potential of Barking Riverside as a place to be, become and belong, whilst meeting the challenges of a changing world’.
As part of upgrading works to the Barking Riverside Jetty, some support beams and columns needed to undergo structural repairs.
The Solution
The works were located below the pier itself within a tidal zone of the River Thames with +/- 6m water levels to be considered. Due to the fast-rising tides, setting times had to be calculated based on tide windows to ensure the material was fully set before becoming submerged at high tides.
The working area was classed as a confined space and considerations and careful planning were required to maximise working hours on the scaffold working platform.
The site itself was compact and the area was still open to the public gaining access to the Thames clipper jetty. Winter working also added constraints to spraying opportunities and involvement in preparation works was required to assist the client on meeting targets and productivity.
The Outcome
Plant & people interface was carefully managed due to the potential dusty nature of dry sprayed concrete, and two separate dry spray setups were required to service the majority of the works, one on the pier itself, another at the entrance to it.
The works were completed on time and within budget and the team were praised by the client for their work ethic and quality of work throughout.
